JAY SUMNER Director of Photography, National Geographic Children's Publishing
Jay Sumner is Director of Photography for National Geographic Children's Publishing, where she has worked with noteworthy photographers such as Frans Lanting and Annie Griffiths. Previously a photo editor for Washingtonian magazine for seven years, she began her career at Teen Machine magazine in New York City, refining her photo editing skills and doling out advice to Kristy McNichol-obsessed teens in her column, "Jiving With Jaybird." She has also worked in the modeling industry, helping to launch such famous faces as Andie MacDowell's, who got her first commercial booking through Sumner.
KAREN KEATING Director, Photo Works, Glen Echo Park, and Photography Instructor, The Field School
Local fine art photographer and educator, Karen is director and instructor at Photoworks at Glen Echo Park and is the photo studio teacher at The Field School, Washington, DC. Educated at Ohio Wesleyan University and the University of Maryland with a BS in education and an MFA in photography from the Maryland Institute College of Art.
JAHI CHIKWENDIU Staff Photographer, The Washington Post (since 2001)
Since joining The Washington Post, Chikwendiu has worked on a variety of stories that include the 2003 US-led invasion of Iraq, AIDS and poverty in Kenya, genocide in Darfur, and DC Public Schools' broken system. He was named 1998 Photographer of the Year by the Kentucky News Photographer's Association (KNPA) for his work at the Lexington (Ky.) Herald-Leader. Chikwendiu's work has been recognized by such organizations as White House News Photographers Association, National Press Photographers Association and National Association of Black Journalists among others.
